The Backstory…

One day, my Cousin Pam, who was a kindergarten teacher at the time, asked if I could come by her class and sing something springy. I wanted to write an original ditty, so the first thing that popped into my head was “bugs”. In an instant, the story unfolded on the pages of a Reader’s Digest I had tucked away in my nightstand. The rest is big bug history.

Have you ever eaten a bug?

Or when you think about it do you say “ugh”!

Caterpillars they go crunch, crunch!

They’re really yummy to a-munch, munch!

Caterpillars, crunch! Crunch!

Now you’ve had a big bug lunch!

Grasshoppers they’re so greasy,

You can gulp them down so easy!

Now you’ve had a big bug lunch!

Worms in your tummy how they wiggle,

When you eat ‘em you will surely giggle!

How about a handful of ants,

You know they’ll really make you dance in your pants!

Caterpillars, crunch! Crunch!

Now you’ve had a big bug lunch!

Now it’s time to have some dessert!

How about a bowl of delicious dirt!

All the bugs they seem to just love it!

So pull up a spoon and have a big mouthful of it!

NOW SHOW YOUR TEETH!  YEEECH!

Butterflies are worth a try,

When you taste them once you’ll flitter-fly!
