Two Trees
The Backstory…
As a young girl, I always dreamed of a boy I had a crush on carving the proverbial “his name + mine” onto a neighborhood tree trunk. It’s such a powerful visual that becomes a permanent testimony of admiration (or, ironically, a temporary infatuation). “Two Trees” takes a metaphorical look at how two people grow and develop, hopefully together through their lives…with a fun little twist in the end.
Lyrics
Two trees, they, break seed,
and, grow up from earth into the sky,
Never knowing they’d be watching
us as we’d kiss for the first time.
Then we’d play games of hide and can you find, oh hmm…yeah
Impressing dandelions as we’d learn to read our minds.
And I know, yes, I know, where there’s a place that we can go,
And I know, yes, I know…that you’re a part of me.
Two trees, now are touching,
and reaching, intermingling,
As our guests, as we celebrate,
another year you loving me,
Playing games of truth, oh, and will you dare me,
underneath this shaded canopy,
then carving out our names to claim this twosome’s love story.
And I know, yes, I know, where there’s a place that we can go,
And I know, yes, I know…that you’re a part of me...
We’ve been united under two trees,
Stiff breeze,
Not even close to blow’n us down,
Our roots deep in all the love we found,
I’ve been think’n ‘of every time
I tried to breath a lullaby,
Without having you be my side
Made Mother Nature wanna cry,
Watching every branch come alive, (Growing into one,)
I’m never lost again, (grounded in our love,)
Don’t let this ever end, (never hesitating,)
Even though the tide rises
and the mountains fall, (Growing into one,)
We’re strong as ever now, (grounded in our love,)
Don’t even ask us how, (so intoxicating,)
I wanna scream out loud,
Pull a shadow from a cloud,
And show the world we’re just that proud.
Our two trees now, they’ve been cut down,
and all we see is sky and sun,
but the timber, is now the frame for,
our house where we will grow as one…
And I know, yes, I know, where there’s a place that we can go,
And I know, yes, I know…that you’re a part of me...
Me, me…
Yes, I know, yes, I know, where there’s a place that we can go,
And be, be as one,
With every bit of passion,
We never move an inch,
this isn’t even much
And if I’m dream’n, (I know)
Where’s the pinch, (Where there’s a place,)
I’m never lost again, (Where there’s a place to go)
Don’t let this ever end,
Even though the tide rises
and the mountains fall.
