Cage
The Backstory…
Years ago, I travelled, literally across the globe to meet up with a man I had met that summer before. After a whirlwind trip, I sadly returned home. I found myself in a long-distance romance I was determined to make work…but, alas, the miles were too great.
After receiving a letter which contained the words, “…you should fly and find someone new, while the cage door is open,” I knew I had the makings of a meaningful lyric. He may have stole my heart, but smartly, I stole his words. And thankfully, my heart healed, and the song remained.
Lyrics
Excuse me mister,
Sir, won’t you drink the water,
That I’ve been wading in,
And please inspire,
The dream that I require,
To make love within my skin
Ayai, ayai, ayai, ayai-yai!
So barefoot fragile,
But, pardon me for asking,
Wasn’t I enough,
Your only answer,
An echo in a ghost town,
Now in slow motion my body hits the ground.
Ayai, ayai, ayai, ayai-yai!
But all you say is fly,
You say fly,
You say fly, while the cage door’s open,
You say fly, just fly,
When finding your way look for blue over gray,
And you’ll know where to land,
But Mr. Sir, I don’t want to,
I’ve come so far, I’d like to stay a while…
Well, farewell sir,
I’ve packed your good intentions,
Now is there anything else you need?
Ayai, ayai, ayai, ayai-yai!
But you say, fly,
You say fly,
You say fly, while the cage door’s open,
You say fly, just fly,
When finding your way look for blue over gray,
And you’ll know where to land,
But Mr. Sir, I know I’ve got to,
I’ve come so far, to turn back now…
